e-Resource login on mobile devices

Over the next few weeks you'll be seeing more information about a new way that we've introduced to allow you to login to e-resources quickly and easily from off campus.

We recommend that you use SOLAR to access e-resources for the easiest and most efficient access, but if you don't want to, there's also an e-Resource Login Tool that you can use.

It's easy to set up and use on browsers on your PC, but on mobile devices such as tablets and phones, the initial set up is a bit more tricky.  The below is using Chrome on an Android tablet - this may not work on other browsers and devices.

First, you need to bookmark any page by clicking on the star in the address bar

Then, you need to edit the bookmark you've created
  • change the name to Eresources Login Tool
  • change the address to javascript:void(location.href=%22https://salford.idm.oclc.org/login?url=%22+location.href);  (copy and paste from here)

Save the bookmark, and the tool is ready to use.

So, next time you reach a platform, journal or article you need to access from off campus, start typing the name of your bookmark into the address bar : Eresources Login Tool

Chrome will start making suggestions which match what you're typing - select Eresources Login Tool when it appears.

You'll be asked to enter your Salford network (Blackboard) username and password, and then you'll be logged into the resource, as you can see in the example below.

We appreciate that this isn't as easy to use as on a PC, and we're looking into alternative ways to do this.

In the meantime, if you have any questions, please contact us at library-eresources@salford.ac.uk
