IEEE Author Disambiguation

From the week of 4th March, IEEE Xplore will introduce an enhancement that they have been working on for the past two years...

"IEEE Xplore is pleased to announce the latest enhancement taking place the week of 4 March 2013. In this release, users will now be able to search author names with more precision than ever.  What is Author Disambiguation? In 2011, IEEE began an author name disambiguation initiative in support of the IEEE Xplore digital library. Author disambiguation establishes authority files for authors and institutions by identifying all articles written by a given author or at a given institution, while simultaneously distinguishing between different authors having the same name. With this enhancement, users will now be able to search on one name and receive accurate results on almost any variation of that name within the digital library. For example, searching for Norman Smith will pull up any articles this individual published under N. Smith or N.W. Smith.

Benefits of author name disambiguation in IEEE Xplore:
Improved precision of results retrieval for author name searches.
New author search interface with search fields for First Name, Middle Name (or middle initial) and Last Name to more accurate searching on only author names
Save time in searching for the correct author: get accurate results faster.
Thank you for being an IEEE Xplore subscriber. If you or your colleagues have feedback to share on this enhancement, please feel free to reach out to our Contact Center (contact-center@ieee.org)."
